RALPH'S SECOND LETTER

Dear 4A

My trip thus far has been filled with all sorts of scenery, but non-more different than where I am situated right now. Everywhere you go cities throughout the country are filled with the national flag; colours yellow, blue and red saturate the streets.

The large portion of the population lives in the mountainous western portion of the country, as well as the northern coastline. The chief western mountain range, the Cordillera Occidental, is a moderately high range with peaks reaching up to 4,500 metres.

The Cauca River Valley, an important agricultural region, separates the Cordillera Occidental from the Cordillera Central range.

The low areas of the country are largely farm bananas and other tropical fruits, whilst wheat and potatoes dominate the high country. Farmers need to be wary of the native Anaconda snake that lurks within the river systems throughout the country. These snakes have been known to eat animals the size of a small cow! Don’t think I’ll be risking taking a walk through the mountains by myself.

Hope all is well, Ralph
